10 Craziest Concept Cars from the Tokyo Motor Show

On the 26th of October, the Tokyo Motor Show kicked off with a roar . Some of the highlights included the Lancer EVO X and the highly anticipated Nissan GT-R. Manufacturers also introduced a handful of concept cars that can only be described as "unique." Here are my picks for the 10 Wackiest Concept Cars from the Tokyo Motor Show:

A company called Solar Electric Vehicles has put out what Prius owners have been waiting for: a solar roof panel. It apparently costs about $2000-4000 and will pay for itself in 2-3 years.

If you wanted a super-slick, futuristic vehicle that could propel you at speeds of 150MPH, what do you think you'd power it with? Rocket fuel? Regular gas, perhaps? How about steam? Yeah, steam

This crazy vehicle is an entry in the British Steam Car Challenge, and it's powered by four boilers that'll give juice to the steamliner's turbine engine with some serious steam pressure. I never even knew steam could power a modern car, let alone one that could move alone at speeds as high as 200MPH on the Utah salt flats. I'm not sure where you'd fill this thing up or how efficient it is, so it's probably not quite practical for bringing the kids to soccer practice, but damn if it isn't a sweet piece of machinery. — Adam Frucci

Nissan 350Z

After a three year absence, the Z returned in 2003 to great acclaim. Richard's page is closing in on half a million hits. Tad is stationed in Germany and cruises his Z on the Autobahn. Nothing has been left untouched on Gina's Z (below). Traland's car is very wide and very orange. Rob's car was the top rated 350Z when I wrote this post. Ryan has been steadily improving his 04 Track Edition. This Z was Fine Tuned. Tolga-Onur's car won SOTW last year. This roadster got Lambo doors. And Juan's car underwent an AWD conversion.

So that's it for this week's WOTW. What should we do next? And who wants to write the next one?

Phantom Hummer crazy car

A 350Z so fast it will make you barf

Sick isn't even the word. This crazy 1750 hp Nissan 350Z is from Performance Motorsport and is reported to be the fastest 350Z on the planet with a 6.9 second quarter mile time. Remarks Eric in his e-mail, "note that, like other recent turbo drag efforts, the chassis was basically built around the turbo plumbing instead of the other way around."

Volkswagon ? crazy car

Today, "custom" is often synonimous with a definitely no-no as far as VW style is concerned! Well, in most cases and especially here in Europe, early customized bugs couldn't qualify as a respectable style... But, in the US, some of them were very cool, especially those who undertook a mild treatment. A bit of history here. Nissan's 'Round Box'

Nissan's 'Round Box' concept car looks odd, but it comes with unique windows set into the car's floor that give you a great view of tarmac and roadkill as it rushes beneath you

The NV200, also by Nissan, comes with a complete 'pull-out' office: perfect for travelling salesmen

Crazy European tuner Geiger Cars has just unveiled its most hideous vehicle yet. The HUMMER GT is a modified H2 complete with gullwing doors, giant 30-inch wheels, and a 556hp (409kW) supercharged engine.

The conversions include a custom light blue/orange paint job, engine upgrade with stainless steel exhaust and a specially calibrated ECU, lower suspension by about 100mm, and sport anti-sway bars for reduced tilt while fast cornering (we wonder whether that’s even possible). With these updates, the HUMMER GT can hit 0-62mph in under 8s and has a max speed of 225km/h.

Inside, you get carbon highlights, color-coded instruments and a multimedia system including a navigation system, DVD player, TV receiver and two LCD-screens that are integrated in the dashboard and a specially designed roof console.

If you want the 30” wheels and special tyres you’ll need to cough up 28,000 Euros. A high performance brake kit with 380mm vented discs and 8-pot fixed calipers costs 10,268 Euros. This is on top of the retail price starting from 133,900 Euros.

This is what happens when a Smart ForTwo Car and a weirded-out '70s Eleanor Mustang from Gone in 60 Seconds get drunk and start talking shit to each other, ending up in some fleabag flophouse with the end result being a positive pregnancy test. Here's their progeny, a combination Smart Car and Eleanor Mustang, dubbed Smartinor.
Thalon Design likes to play games with car mods, and it's outdone itself with this one. Another pic of this shapely young lady falling all over this transmogrified car, after the jump.
